London - Bangkok

One of the most popular long haul routes on the planet. Lots of airlines, lots of fares.

Low Cost Lux Conclusion:
  • Low fares can be had non-stop travelling daytime on Thai. Not luxury but an option to consider.
  • No easy stopovers but some are totally worth the effort.
London - Bangkok. Bangkok London flight options.
Most flights require a change in Europe or the middle east. Middle east stops are especially bad since they often involve a change of planes when your body is only interested in deep deep sleep.

Take a look at these non-stop options though. It doesn't quite fit into our low lost lux aim of maximum 9 hours per flight but definitely worth considering.

Non-Stop Direct flights

Rough Best Price 2007 peak season: 800 pounds incl taxes [1150 eur]

Thai have daytime flights departing both London and Bangkok around midday. This means the whole flight is done during normal daytime hours at the point of departure and for your body clock. They have these great fares on those convenient dsaytime flights which just tips the balance for us to make this still long 11 hour trek one of the best options.

In Bangkok take a normal taxi to and from the airport. It costs a fiver or so to most places even from the new airport. To get a normal city taxi, follow the signs to taxi stand where you get a ticket for which you pay the driver 50 baht extra, ignore the limo touts which are much more expensive and never ever go with a guy hanging in the airport unless you want to get robbed or worse.

OK so there is a pretty decent non-stop option but still feeling you need an extra little bit of luxury. So how about business class?

Discount Business Class

Austrian-Lufthansa via Frankfurt. 13-15 hours. Flights 1.5 & 10.5 hours. 1550 pounds incl taxes.
I.e. non stop economy + 1050 pounds peak season, + 750 pounds off season

Or Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. ca. 16 hours. 1630 pounds inc taxes.
I.e. non stop economy + 800 pounds peak season, + 1130 pounds off season

As always the third possibility for doing it in style but without breaking the bank is a stopover.

There are actually some great possibilities for stopovers but the more interesting ones reaquire that you arrange a visa before you travel. Given that this route is so competetive, you will also end up paying a little more for your "free extra trip".

However we think it's worth a little more. So if you have the time and can get organised before you leave ...
