Visas
Most nationals must apply for a visa before travelling to India. It costs around 50 euro and takes a few days from either the embassy in your home country or a neighbouring country.
The visa situation is the major drawback - hassle factor for India. Of course India is worth the effort anyway but it would be so much easier with a visa or simply a stamp on arrival.
Airport Transfer
Taxis require negotiaition with the driver. There is usually a pre paid taxi counter in Indian airports which is a better idea. There is a bus run by ex servicemen to connaught place area which is an option for backpackers. Not really a good way to economise though since taxis are cheap and the sacrifice in comfort far outweighs the saving.
We budgeted 10 euro each way for your transfer
Currency
Local currency is the Indian Rupee, IRR. There are about 55 to the euro or 82 to the pound or 40 to the US dollar.
